One grant went to a recently widowed mother of a baby. Both parents were local workers, with the mother on maternity leave. After her partner's sudden death, she and her baby moved in with friends but had no living expenses while awaiting support.
Homestart applied for an urgent grant, which was approved within three weeks, covering essential shopping vouchers and childcare. Our panel awarded a third more than requested.
